Adventure-Based Learning

Last Wednesday, we had our first session of Adventure-Based Learning, or ABL for short. All three 4th grades met in the gym from 9:15-11:15. We were led by Donna Murray from Sweetser. One of the main goals of ABL is to improve teamwork through using the "High 5 of Respect" shown above. Students did a lot of partner activities and were encouraged to work with partners from other classrooms. Below is a picture of "Birthday Cake Partners."

Some of the partner activities could be frustrating, like trying to tie a shoe with each partner only being able to use one hand. That was a lesson in perserverance for sure!

Our last activity was in our classroom focus groups of 4-6 people.
We had to see how many times we could hit the ball, using only two fingers.

At the end, each group reflected on what helped them to be successful throughout the morning, and recorded it in their folder. We will continue to meet every 2-3 weeks with Mrs. Murray facilitating, until we go on the ropes course field trip next May.

ABL ROCKS!!
